59th Annual Family Fun Fest, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School

An evening of food, games, live music, and fun for the whole parish and school family. Free entry, and all are welcome.

We are excited to welcome former students, staff, faculty, and guests for a memorable evening of reconnecting and celebration. Revisit the halls where your educational journey began, share cherished memories, and make new connections with friends old and new. We look forward to celebrating a century of community, heritage, and achievement with you.

Annual Gala: Rockin’ Through the Century

Friday, February 5, 2027 · 5:30–10:00 PM · The Metropolitan, Golden Valley

Join us as we celebrate 100 years of faith, learning, and community at Sacred Heart Catholic School’s Annual Gala. This year’s theme, Rockin’ Through the Century, invites guests on a musical journey through the decades at a new venue for our centennial year. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite musical era, or even as their high school self.

100 Years of Sacred Heart: A Timeline

  • 1926: Sacred Heart Catholic School opened with six rooms and six grades (1st through 6th), along with a library, school office, and lavatories. The building also featured a large auditorium with a platform stage and dressing rooms in the basement. Total cost: $45,000.
  • 1926: Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict moved into a house across the street from the school, then into the convent in August 1927.
  • 1927: The first graduating class of 19 students.
  • 1927: An additional classroom opened for 7th grade in the church basement.
  • 1928: 4th grade moved to the church basement, making room for 7th and 8th grade in the school building.
  • 1930: Two classrooms and a garage were added to the school.
  • 1942: Tuition was 50 cents a month for a family’s two oldest children; the rest of the family paid no tuition.
  • 1949: An additional classroom and bathrooms were added in the old church.
  • 1954: When Minneapolis retired its streetcars, car #1268 came to Sacred Heart, where it served as a beloved playhouse for students for many years.
  • 1957: The school was built to hold 240 students; enrollment reached 400.
  • 1960: Remodeling began, converting the basement auditorium into five classrooms and a nurse’s office.
  • 1968: The school was completely remodeled with new doors and windows, lowered ceilings, improved heating and lighting, and carpeting in the hallways and classrooms.
  • 1973: The original landmark church was destroyed by fire.
  • 1976: Kindergarten was added.
  • 1980: The age of technology arrived with a computer lab featuring several Commodore 64s.
  • 1988: The computer lab was upgraded to Apple IIe computers.
  • 1988: The school won an Archdiocesan contest for the best PR for Catholic Schools Week.
  • 1990: The music room moved from the tunnel to an area near the cafeteria, and other nooks and crannies were redesigned into usable space for 300 students.
