Mrs. Tempel's Third Grade
March 8-12
SEND NON-PERISHABLE ITEMS TO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY,MARCH 10, FOR OUR FOOD DRIVE AT MASS. THANK YOU!
Lent
We have begun our observance of Lent in our room with the writing of our Lenten resolutions. We have tried to include sacrifices we might make, extra prayers, and good deeds for others in our plans. We also will be attending the Stations of the Cross on three Fridays during Lent. We will be spending time studying the Stations of the Cross, the importance of the Lenten season, and the events of Holy Week. We will end our study with a Last Supper in our room right before our Easter break. Hopefully all of these activities will help us to develop a deeper understanding of God, ourselves and others.
Biography Reports
We have read the biographies of George Washington Carver and Helen Keller(this week). Now it is time for each student to select a biography of their choice to read and share with us. Information on our biography report was sent home on Friday. The biography guide was also included so each student can use it to take notes as they read their biography. The due date for this report is not until April 9. This is to give everyone plenty of time to find the right book, read it, and do their report. I know that many of you have trips planned for our scheduled break, and I am hoping that this advance notice will help you complete this assignment more easily. If the report is finished earlier, it can be given earlier. Scroll down for report information on this page.
Block Kids
The National Association of Women in Construction visited our classroom on Tuesday, March 9. We watched a video on the construction industry, met women who worked in various jobs in the industry, and had a chance to build our own project using only material that was provided. It was quite a challenge! Nathaniel, Sam P. and Shealyn won first, second, and third place for their projects. We all enjoyed the time spent working on our projects as well as a great snack provided by our guests. Nathaniel in our classroom ended up to be the GRAND CHAMPION winner at Sacred Heart School for his project. Look for pictures of Nate's project as well as pictures of us working on our projects below on this web site.
Junior Achievement
Last week we have learned about blue prints, drawing to scale, and how cities are constructed using builders and city planners. We worked together to build our own city with our own buildings, and worked to place our buildings in the appropriate zones of the city. This week we will be making decisions in order to start our own restaurant. Ask your child what kind of restaurant they planned in their group this week.
